The base of this tree-slice backgammon set (nardi) starts as one piece of beech, carved into a two-sided board of 60 cm (about 24 in). Each side is then decorated with slices of tree branches, and the surface is filled with blue epoxy resin.
A branch slice is a cross-section of a branch, so the decoration puts the inside of the wood on show, set off by the blue of the resin. The beech of the base frames it all quietly. Blue keeps the look cool and calm, which makes the board an easy fit for a modern living room or a study. Opened, it is ready for a game between two players.
