Our workshop carves the body of this red epoxy backgammon set (nardi) from one piece of beech wood, giving a two-sided board 60 cm (about 24 in) across. Slices of tree branches decorate the surface of each side, set in red epoxy resin.
Red is a bold partner for natural wood, and here it makes the branch slices stand out clearly on both faces of the board. Each slice is cut across a branch, so it shows end grain rather than the long grain of an ordinary board. When the set is opened, the game inside is classic backgammon for two players.
