Fine, even-textured beech, carved from one piece, forms this classic tiger backgammon set (nardi) with complex elements, and its back is meant for draughts. On the 60 cm (about 24 in) board a tiger is engraved, and the more intricate design invites a closer look between games.
The tiger stands for strength and courage, and in a game decided across twenty-four points by dice and skill, both are worth having. Even when no game is under way, the set deserves a place where its detail can be seen, such as a sideboard in the dining room or a shelf in the study.
