Two materials meet in these backgammon (nardi) checkers: a base of beech and walnut wood, and the coat of arms of the Russian Federation, cast in aluminium–zinc alloy and bronze and mounted on every piece. Underneath, velvet fabric covers each checker so that the board is not scratched.
Because the emblem is repeated on every checker, the set takes on a formal, heraldic look once the pieces are lined up on the board. Each checker measures 3 cm across, and the contrast between wood and cast metal is what distinguishes this set from plain wooden pieces of the same size.
