These 3 cm backgammon (nardi) checkers join wood and metal: the bases are beech and walnut, and an octagram – an eight-pointed star – cast from aluminium–zinc alloy and bronze is fixed to each piece. Underneath, every checker is covered with velvet fabric.
As a motif, the octagram is purely geometric: eight points around a centre, with no figure or lettering. That makes the set easy to pair with boards of very different styles, from plain classic designs to richly carved ones, while straw-coloured beech and deeper brown walnut add a second contrast beneath the metal.
