Apricot, pomegranate and grapes, three symbols of Armenia, are engraved on all three sides of this three-player backgammon set (nardi). In Armenian tradition the pomegranate stands for life, abundance and prosperity, and grapes recall the age of wine-making in the Armenian highlands, where archaeologists in a cave at Areni found what is described as the world’s oldest known winery. The 50 cm (about 20 in) board is made of plywood and solid wood.
Backgammon for three was devised by Nerses Nersesyan in 2007 and is played on a special board with three sides. Each player has 15 pieces, white, black or red, and the first to bear off every one of them wins. Three fruits and three players: when relatives or friends meet in threes, nobody has to wait for the next game.
Every set is completely handcrafted and comes with a 25-year guarantee certificate. Collectors of game sets will find a three-player format here, engraved with symbols of Armenia.
