This 60 cm (about 24 in) deer backgammon set (nardi), with its contour outline, is sized for long sessions between two players at a dining or games table. A single piece of beech forms the board, and the image of a deer is engraved into it.
Often linked with nobility, majesty, beauty and grace, the deer gives the board a calm and dignified motif. The same board serves for long nardi and for short nardi, so an evening can move from one to the other without a change of set, or on to draughts, for which the back of the board is designed.
