This handmade backgammon set (nardi) is carved from a single piece of beech wood, with a 50 cm board, featuring the Armenian alphabet.
The Armenian alphabet, created by Mesrop Mashtots in 405, is engraved on the board. Each letter stands for a word, and together they read as a prayer that begins with the word Creator and ends with the word Christ.
The reverse side is laid out for checkers (draughts).
