“Singer” puts a vocalist into wood: a hand-carved figure of 17 x 10 x 46 cm, made from a single piece of linden and entirely by hand. Its grain and colour belong to the particular piece of linden it came from, so the next singer to be carved will not share them exactly.
It needs little room, so it fits beside a record player, on a shelf of recordings and songbooks or on a desk in a rehearsal room. In a home where people like to sing together, it is a small reminder that the voice is an instrument too, and among other carved figures it adds a musical note to the shelf.
